I said at the very beginning when I created my website that it was very much a work in progress :) and I am so pleased with what I have been able to do with it. I am shaping it in a lovely way, in the way that shows just how passionate I am about my women's classes and getting the message out there.
My classes are a little bit different, they are not boxercise or straight Yoga or cross fit. But I never wanted them to be, and if there are any ladies out there who have looked at my classes and are a little bit unsure about what they are, then please either get in touch or come join in with a class. Always remember though that your first class will be your starting point and that it won't be until about week 6, week 10 if you are doing my programme, that you will start to see your end point.
Women generally of all levels of fitness can do my classes. You can use it as a stand-alone class or for strength & conditioning. But more than anything, my class has been especially designed, and every single movement/exercise I will be asking you to do, is for women who are nervous, shy, not very confident, have anxiety/nervous/panic issues, who are rape/trauma survivors, who maybe have mobility/disability/mental health problems.
I train Jiu jitsu, my journey started with this after I was attacked. And for a long time after my attack, I was very ill. But then I knew what I needed to do. I needed to learn Jiu Jitsu, so I could learn to manage my fear of being in my worst position ever, on the ground. So I could learn some things to maybe try if I ever found myself in that position ever again, and so I could learn to cope with the flashbacks and triggers, and learn not to panic in that situation. Jiu Jitsu has helped me a lot. And it is through that, that I began to develop my own women's classes. As a result of being introduced to some Ginastica yoga and Stretch as part of my Jiu Jitsu training, and also as a result of reclaiming my own body again as a woman/a female .... that's why I like to call my classes 'vintage' because to me vintage represents glamour..... for a long time after my own attack I didn't want to be a woman or female, now I am embracing it and learning to accept my curves!
When you come to class you may see that I may not be what you imagined (if you have imagined anything at all!)... because I now have the frame of a woman who regularly trains Jiu Jitsu.
What can you learn from me in my classes? Mindfulness, it can help to calm your mind, how to work the whole of your body, some movements/exercises may seem simple but they can be amped up and on some of them you can 'feel the burn' just like you would in a boxercise class or something similar, there is a little bit of cardio in there, it will teach you how to listen to your own body, there is music for the workout, it will teach you self esteem, to hold your head up, you can have a laugh or use my space/class to cry if you need to if something is troubling you... it's a supportive environment ... on two nights of the week at two different locations. I can also do my class on a mobile basis so if you have a hall/room space near to you then I can do a private session. My classes anyway are like mini private sessions - because of the way I work, I will not allow more than a maximum number. I prefer to work with a few women at a time so I can take them through the programme.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia following the trauma from my attack, so it was important for me to find a way to structure how I trained my Jiu Jitsu and strength and conditioning... that has been factored into my women's classes, because I know that I am not the only woman who suffers with this.
I do my own class workout routine on myself every single day! Sometimes as my morning exercise, sometimes as my evening exercise.... I like to practice what I teach... I would not ask the ladies who do my classes to do something that I would not do 🙂
I hope you continue to like my website (there is still so much more I would like to be able to do with it)... and for any women who would like to try a class, please get in touch, book your place, try it out, stick with it a little bit... you will notice a difference!
